All rooms have their decorating rooms and the main room was no different. At just 5 m by 3.8 m it needs to perform a number of function and, as a first preference, use my existing furniture. Some of that was logical (table and chairs, couch) but there was the Gentleman's Wardrobe which I just love love love and there is no space in any other room. And as well as my love, it is very functional for hanging up some of my fabric collection, it is an original piece of furniture that hasn't be restored and it provides a shelf for storage/display (something that is otherwise lacking in the room).
At the moment, the room is furnished like this:
A quick explanation of the numbers: 1 is an electric wall heater; 2 is the gentleman's wardrobe; 3 is a 1950's table and chairs; 4 is the wall which comes into the space by 20 cm for just over a metre (the entry space is on the other side); and, 5 is a coffee table. Number 6 (the wall at the bottom of the picture) is open with an entry way, the back of the pantry and then a bench which opens onto the kitchen. Okay so it isn't really a wall at all, just a room divider.
The coffee table sits closer to the couch most of the time but will need to move to the the front of the wardrobe when the heater is turned on. I could have got rid of it but 1) the shape suits the space; 2) it is functional and 3) it has a shelf underneath to hold some of my many magazines; and 4) it matches the style of the old record cabinet that is used as an entertainment unit for the television (currently located between the couch and the wall.
So functionally, this is what has been created:

A lot of arrows for a little space but this is what I have got: 1) lounge room; 2) spare bedroom; 3) tv room; 4) craft room; 5) extension for either the lounge or dining rooms; 6) dining room (table is pulled out from the wall); 7) office and 8) studio.
I have lived in it for a couple of months so far and it surprisingly works. The furniture is eclectic at best but it hasn't been a priority yet as it is all still functional.
